2011 should be a fun and exciting year. I have volunteered/been selected to chair the event committee.
During the non-profit application process, Geocache Alaska (GeAK!) committed to promote geocaching in the community, provide opportunities for the caching community to socialize, and to actively promote the CITO efforts in the community.
The event committee will receive and create suggestions, ideas, and proposals for events and present these to the board for approval.
The event committee will also help facilitate events by supporting the event's main point of contact.
Some of the events for the coming year are:
Three CITO events in conjunction with our Adopt-a-Highway commitment.
Indian Summer
Hopefully a couple more local CITO events
Geo-Fest
If you have other suggestions or would like to help on the committee, please let me know.
Here's to a fun and "event"ful 2011.

The Winter Trails Day Event on February 12th was a hit with our Land Manager Hosts from the BLM at Campbell Tract and the Campbell Science Center! In addition to dozens of folks introduced to geocaching, we were able to introduce every board member present to every BLM manager who came by to see the crowds in action at our volunteer post / event site. A big thank-you to those board members who volunteered a big chunk of their Saturday to hang out (capra hircus, ladybug kids, cavyguy) and to blazing pathways for her service as a BLM Event Staffer too. We received high marks from BLM management for our attitude, we introduced dozens of interested folks to geocaching with our 'Who We Are' handout, and we signed up new members as well! All in all - a terrific event which I thoroughly enjoyed hosting!

Yes, it was a lot of fun having a big chunk of time to interact with one of the most geo-friendly land manager groups and many local cachers.
I had such a good time, I bumped my ski session to later in the day so I could stay on site longer.
Many thanks to NorthWes for fostering this positive land manager relationship going back to the days when we were asked to move our caches out of the riparian zone to minimize the likelihood of bear encounters and stream bank erosion. I had two BLM representatives specifically thank me for our prompt response to their request.
We done good!
