I have the desire to try and form a Central Peninsula Chapter of GeAK. There is little guidance in the by-laws, but I'm very curious about one item in Article X that states a Chapter must have a minimum of 10 Premium Members. As the only Premium Member on the Kenai, that means I have to go out and convince at least 9 other people to buy a Premium Membership before we can entertain the Chapter concept for this area. That's going to be a hard sell to many.
What is the justification for 10 Premium Members? There is no minimum membership requirement for the organization as a whole, just for Chapters. So I'm just curious if there is a reasoning behind this restriction or if it is something that we might be able to reevaluate.
What if the requirement was for 5 Premium Members; would that change the dynamics of the Chapter concept or might it promote more Chapters to be formed, which would in turn help promote GeAK in more areas of the state and thereby raise membership? Just something to ponder.

There is a board meeting tomorrow night at the BP Energy Center, I will ask your question and post a explanation. I believe the reasoning is to ensure the success of the Chapters but will get clarification. Feel free to e-mail me at akfossil@geocachealaska.org if you have not heard from me by Thursday morning.

Yes the board discussed why there is a 10 member requirement in the by-laws. The reasoning was to ensure there was good support for the chapter where there was more then the chapter board as voting members of the chapter. And this in turn would help ensure the success of the chapter.
The dialog is still on going, the board, due to time constraints couldn't spend as much time on this subject as wanted.
If you have time joat please e-mail me and give me your ideas on how you would like to approach the chapter creation for your area as well as foreseen roadblocks. I will in turn voice your ideas to the board and go from there.
I would also like to thank you for your time and participation in GeAK! as we work to make it successful.
