Some owners are difficult to deal with. I did a cache in Cedar City, Utah today, May 9, 2008. All I had was the coordinates in my GPA device. I did not have a cache sheet. When I got near ground zero I noticed the cache was on private property, in a back yard, through a gate, near a swing set, in a residential area. I logged it as a DNF stating that it was on private property. The cache owner sent me an email stating "Maybe you should read the cache notes. Cachers have permission to enter the area."
When I checked my log the owner had also added a note to the logs stating: "I guess they don't know how to read in Alaska. The description clearly states you have permission to go on the property". One person shot down a week's worth of good impressions I had gotten from the folks around there.

Don't make too much of it powmia! This guy has more than a couple issues as far as I can tell. 1.) To place a cache in a yard, and by a swing set no less, what's up with that? That’s what I would want to do… have strangers come in around where my children play at any time. 2.) To insult a fellow cacher when a polite note or log posting would have been appropriate.
I have had someone dog me (not the cache owner) when I was in Pennsylvania for not putting the cache back correctly. It was under three rocks, did I not put them back facing some celestial location? Not only that, it was in a trash heap... see I still get a little worked up ;D
Have fun and don't let it slow you down - Ole

Hey, powmia...what's the GC number for the offending cache? I think we Alaskans need to let the cache owner know via notes posted to his cache page that not only we can read, we also have manners and know how to be polite to visitors!
(Only twenty posts behind Ole for the claim to "cacher who most needs a life.")

(Only twenty posts behind Ole for the claim to "cacher who most needs a life.")It is GC13N5W Rockin in the Forest. I got other notes from cachers on DNF giving me assistance. One was sorry I missed their cache. Well, I can't please them all, but when you don't have a cache sheet you can't see all the info. I doubt I would have gone into the yard even if I knew I had permission. When they live that close together, who knows who might be calling 911 while your there.

Just got settled in Salt Lake City UT and set the computer up. Checked the infamous "Forest" cache...and otherwise happy as all getout. Or, is that gitout, or geetout, or g'out mate. I just checked the cache site. The owner archived it....."gone for good". Maybe he couldn't take the heat. Cache Logs May 11 by IGTWITY (553 found) Gone for good [view this log on a separate page]

Definitely when operating on less than four hours sleep the night before and perhaps a total of fifteen over the previous three nights.

He closed the cache! Maybe Utah people are sensitive?? Bummer...that certainly wasn't my desired outcome. I was hoping for a positive "teachable" moment to occur where a cacher could learn how to better host a cache on his property and maybe elicit an apology to Alaskans (or at least an edited cache page note without the illiteracy slur). Let's not pile onto Utah cachers in general. Utah cachers I've interfaced with in the geocoin business are great folks. (Still twenty posts behind Ole for the claim to "cacher who most needs a life.")

Dang LBK.... Nice dig on the cache page, you're the master. Well done, LBK! To quote the 'master's' final paragraph in his exquisitely polite and well-worded note to the cache page: "Finally, as an Alaskan, I take umbrage at your insinuation that Alaskans can't read. My kindergartener junior ladybug would have no problem reading the cache page and my second grader junior ladybug could have written it. Geocachers are generally a friendly group who welcome visitors. It's unfortunate this interlude didn't go more positively.
--Daddy Ladybug, Anchorage, Alaska"THAT'S a classic! Umbrage, no less! And implying (whether intended or not) that the cache page reads like 2nd grade English! I'm wheezing with laughter... and the final of final remarks - 'welcome visitors' & so forth... yeah, this poor guy's not the poster child for that community's Convention & Visitors Bureau. Then again, I've met some Alaskan cache placements that don't seem to welcome visitors...

Your logs were deleted! He was a test subject for the evil stuponitron helmet. There was a power surge, a large black smoke cloud and an awful cracking noise. His eyes rolled back, then they rolled back into place but they were red blood shot eyes and he started saying, "Alaskans can't read, Alaskans can't read..." the rest is history.

He closed the cache! Maybe Utah people are sensitive?? Apparently so. The cache owner not only archived the cache, but he deleted powmia's DNF log, his own comment about Alaskans' literacy, and all subsequent comments. I just learned that if someone deletes your log, it gets deleted from your profile, too. So, if you ever write a log that you'd like to preserve, be sure to save it to your hard drive. Things aren't as permanent as I thought they would be on the gc.com website.
