Greatland Reviewer---who, I believe, may have all the answers to my questions! this concerns a cache nearby my new home: GC313A8 - Recyclable Geo hidden on 7/28/2011.
I located the cache last fall with my grandsons help, but did not have my GPS handy to check the coordinates, but I believe the cache is way off the posted coordinates. The container is not waterproof, nor is the cache winter friendly. I have sent a message 3 times to the Cache Owner with hopes of having this cache transferred to me, as I would be happy to maintain it! the CO has never responded to me. How can I get this cache transferred to me? Do I have to wait until there are many DNF's on it? If you have insight and can help.....please let me know! Thanks much---appreciate ALL you do!

How can I get this cache transferred to me? Only the Cache Owner can adopt out their own cache. If the Cache Owner is unresponsive to ongoing maintenance issues, a "Needs Archived" or e-mail to the local Reviewer will bring the cache to the Reviewer's attention. If the Cache Owner doesn't respond to the Reviewer, the cache can be archived to open the area for a new cache. Alternatively, some one from the caching community can choose to maintain the cache informally. This kind of action is usually reserved for caches with special redeeming or historical context.

Many cachers routinely informally maintain caches for other cachers by replacing full/wet logs and torn baggies, taking ammo cans home to clean them after beers have exploded in them, replacing missing containers after confirming they are, in fact missing, etc.

An AmmoCan that had frozen beer in it....I was along for that one. We laughed about who was going to take it home and clean it!
'Community' is a part of geocaching in my mind and that means helping with maintenance...particularly with regard to more remote caches!
Thanks to all who have helped me with mine!

Many thanks to ColoReido who accepted the short straw and took the ammo can home for a throrough cleaning. It still shines on the outside and the inside has got to be the cleanest inside in Alaska! I could almost be convinced to eat out of it. Glenn.fish and akjoey also get kudos for being part of the crew.
