Ok. I need this cache. We need this cache. Now, who has the boat, and who else wants to split gas? I've decided that after no bruhaha for my 1000th find, and not much wahoo for the 1500th, I need to bag a truly memorable cache between now and #2000. It will take a long time to get within striking distance of 2000 anytime soon, but I'd love to see if anyone else might be interested in making this cache outing possible. Who's in?

I'm going to try to hammer some power trails while in Minnesota for Thanksgiving with the in-laws, and a couple days of getting what I can in North Carolina for Christmas seeing my folks. I doubt that I'll get too much closer, but perhaps by next summer the weather would be nicer, we'd have more daylight, and we can go celebrate! I wondered about the Whittier part. Between simply having to get to Whittier and having to boat out of there, I didn't know what a plan might be.

Whittier is a pain cause of tunnel etc...fishing is not as good as Seward either...
There are a lot of hazards to navigation that are not charted and only known by 'local' knowledge. I know Seward like the back of my hand but not Whittier! Not to worry though...I will contact a friend of mine and visit with him before going. We will be fine once there.
We will have to wait until next summer and after I do a 'shakedown' cruise and check things out. I didn't have the opportunity to run the boat this year and have a list of maintenance items from last year. Nothing major but need to be done beforehand. This is my normal procedure from year to year but especially important with the extended sit! Should be checked out and ready to go by June 1st at the latest!
June or the first part of July is the time to go. My boat will be in Seward after that....prime fishing through mid August...could go after then.
Just made my reservations for the HMGT mega in WV this morning for Labor Day weekend so that is out!
Another thought...scope out another nearby cache within the sound that you would like to be your 2000th in case we can not find the cirque cache. I am sure there are plenty.
I will also look at the caches in the area because I have not been there. We will also be hiding at least one while there.

That cache is in a beautiful place! I love Esther Island! Back when I had a MkIII Zodiac we'd get out that way a couple of times a year. That was pre-caching days for me too...

So we have the Professor, the Skipper and Gilligan (not saying who is who yet...!). I wonder how this 3-hour tour would go?

Lol....can't wait to find out!!!! I made my folks promise that we'd go out caching together for a bunch of finds in North Carolina next week. I made sure they knew that I need to add about 400 more to get within striking distance of 2k by springtime. There are some geotrails and power trails near their place, but having the time to get them is anther story. My parents are also retirees, and even though I get them started on the game, they are waaaaay up there in finds. Nothing like the retired life and a Prius to save on gas for all of their geocaching-related travels! That said, I might be on my own to find most of the caches around their place in Durham; they've already found most of them. But, I'm surely going to have at least 1 day of just caching with them. Let's see what my milestone might be for this milestone Shoestring cache!

I have wanted to go for that cache for a while - problem is, I can never get that far from the boat, which is why I hid a couple of caches near the beach in the South Esther area - failing to find the shoestring cache, you'd be well-positioned to go for one of those :-) Good luck - I'll be looking for your logs

So we have the Professor, the Skipper and Gilligan (not saying who is who yet...!). I wonder how this 3-hour tour would go? It was a six-hour tour when MTBoy and I found coord.info/GC1X58T and coord.info/GCA25F during an Ester Island circumnavitation. I wonder if Mitsuko could be recruited to be Mary Ann? Then, we need a Mr. Howell to bankroll the whole venture.

I wonder if Mitsuko could be recruited to be Mary Ann? Trust me. You do NOT want to be stuck in the cabin of a boat with Mitsuko for 6 hours! (Unless it has really good ventilation)

Here is another one you might want to grab on your Sound excursion - this in Hidden Bay on Culross not far from Esther - coord.info/GC514FZ

I wanna go. Got cache for cache Now this would bring back a lot of great memories from my commercial fishing days. Just the smell will bring back all the times. Little gear for me, I've got a survival suit and I love the wind in my face.
