One of our members talked to state parks and rec, up here cause they are thinking of putting more caches up on Colorado trail off Chena Hot Springs. She was told she had to apply for a permit and meet with them and give them her plan. Do we ask GCA have permits to put caches in Alaska State parks no matter where? Or do we have to get a permit?

This is the reason why GeocacheAlaska! exists. Our members, such as this cacher you are talking about, join the Advocacy Committee and together they work with the Parks department in question to come up with a blanket permit for geocaching that anyone who is a member of the club can use. It benefits everyone out there and avoids the potentially disastrous results of multiple individual cachers all getting their own permits and even more cachers placing caches without permits, all of which tends to get places completely shut down for geocaching.
When GAK approaches a park manager as a single entity representing some 250 members, we have a much better bargaining chip in dealing with the manager to get the best possible outcome. Then the club can communicate with the entire membership what the particulars of the permit are.

What Scott said, and...I believe the Colorado Creek Trail enters BLM's White Mountain National Recreation Area and BLM has a nationwide policy of not requiring a permit for geocaches. Pershaps the cacher is wanting to places caches in the Chena River Recreation Area which does fall under State Parks. When I last approached Interior State Parks about seven years ago, they told me a permit was not required, but it appears things have changed. I think the examples of the MatSu and Chugach State Park blanket permits held by GeocacheAlaska! would make a perfect template for a State Parks permit in the Interior. Copies of the permits are downloadable from the GeocacheAlaska! Land Manager webpage.

I will check with the state office to see who's land that trail is on, then go from there.
