YES, but I like making it a little harder the second time...........I close my eyes It takes a bit longer, and I run into a lot of trees, but I still have a good time.......I think.

Why did the cacher cross the street?
He was following his arrow, but he hadn't calibrated......everyone knows you have to calibrate.

Jumping up...I DO I DO.. I calibrate my compass every time I change my battories, and even sometimes inbetween when it seams my gps is off or wont settle down. It makes a diff. as one time 30-50 ft. I know Garman recommens you recalibrate every time you change battories. I know that is for the Oregons and 62s with 3 axes compass. Im not sure about other model or if its possable. I know a few cachers that don't very often. Its the hiders placing the cache were its most important. the cache finders can wonder around amlessly till they find it. lol

I know a few cachers that don't very often. Its the hiders placing the cache were its most important. the cache finders can wonder around amlessly till they find it. lol Calibrating the compass does not affect GPS accuracy. The GPS derives its coordinates/position from the difference in the "time shifting" of the signals from the satellites as they fly overhead. The 2- and 3-axis compasses on some models allow the GPS to "know" which way is north (much like an old-fashioned magnetic compass) without the cacher having to move, as is the case for older models. Not calibrating the compass merely means the arrow may point the wrong way when you are standing still, but the indicated heading (NW, SE, etc.) is correct because the GPS "knows" where you are relative to the coordinates it is navigating, too. I rarely, if ever, calibrate my Oregon 450 because as long as I'm moving, it points the right way and it generally points the right way when I'm stationary. The exception is when I have to take a bearing for a multi- or puzzle cache and I want to be certain my "sight and go" line is accurate. Even then, I stil will pull out my magnetic compass to verify since I'm old fashioned enough I still don't entirely trust electronic gizmos.

if you need a quick caching fix and can't get out to do so, try this fuzzy trick. go into a room, pull the shades, turn off the light. Get it so dark that you can't see your hand in front of your face......and start searching for it

I'm gonna revisit this thread whenever I need humor - I'm grinning all over. Now that I've turned 55, I'm beginning to realize there's some corollaries between caching and aging: Umm - just exactly where am I, and why? Where did I put that? What, exactly, am I looking for? Where did I leave my car? Have you seen my GPS? Who in their right mind thought this was an interesting place? What happened to my car keys? Where's my cell phone? Low Cell Phone Battery? Did I forget to charge it again? I'm parked in my garage - why is the cache container still in my car? And that most horrible of circumstances: I've really got to go - I wonder if anyone would notice if I took a leak here? ( I bet that's why they invented CITO!)

Northwes, They call all that PRACTCE. Hey you don't just start playing this game one day and master it the next, you need to practice when you're not in the field. Searching for your keys is a great eye exercise, and a test of patience, both good geocaching skills. And wondering where you are, will help it not be so frightening when it happens after wandering around aimlessly for a while searching for a bison in the woods. Now the, "I've got to go", is a whole different issue. We'll discuss that in a more private setting

I've notice a nuance with the attachments in the previous post. They seem to have lost their file type info when uploaded with IE7. When I download them with FF18 under Win7, they are not recognized as a valid image file. So, now I'm uploading some images via FF18 to see what happens... pcwhack

Yep. They are setup right in this post. Apparently there are some quirks that older version of IE don't like, but that's not surprising.
