Good questions... The Board of Directors meets monthly and that is considered a "Business Meeting". These meetings usually occur on the 3rd Thursday of the month, however we do have some schedule variations due to availability of the meeting site (BP Energy Center in Anchorage) and the schedules of individual members. These meetings start at 5:30pm and run until 6:45pm on EduVent months (Feb-May & Sep-Nov). In the summer months, the meetings can run as late as 8pm to get all the business finished. There is no separate BOD meeting in December. The first meeting of the new BOD is in January and that meeting can also run long as the new BOD is seated and brought up to speed. A "General Membership" meeting can be called for cause as needed, but we do not hold them on a regular basis. The Secretary does record the minutes for these meetings and then electronically posts them for BOD review as soon as practical after the meeting. We generally amend and then vote for final approval of minutes "off the clock" and prior to the next meeting via an electronic vote. We maintain a super secret squirrel stash online to allow all BOD members access to the documents and to record electronic votes. It also allows us to conduct urgent business outside of regular meetings as needed. The Executive Committee is the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer (outlined in the bylaws at the beginning of Article VI). For those interested, anyone may view the By-Laws.

Thank you, Scott. Re: EC vs BOD: In rereading that section, I see that it does make the differentiation. I think the "Executive Board" in the title of Article XIII threw me.
Another question: In the bylaws, under Article IX: Standing Committees, I see two committees listed: Advocacy and Education & Outreach. In the forums, under Committees, I see 4: Education, Fundraising, Membership, and Advocacy. I would assume the Bylaws would be the official reference, but I'm curious about those other committees...Membership and Fundraising. (There are a few other listings there, but these are the 4 that have 'committee' in their name!)

The bylaws require a minimum standard. A BOD action put in place additional "non mandatory" committees a couple years ago. This was done to break up the work load a bit more, by dishing out committee chairmanship roles to more members. In practice, we have many of the same core group of people serving on multiple committees. This is an area that we really need to get more involement from the membership on.

Thanks, Scott!
The third Thursday business meeting/Eduvent dates still conflict for me, so no BOD for this gal yet! I'm interested in doing more promotion and membership recruitment down here, though, so I may scope out what's being done with the membership committee and look into how I might be able to put in some time there.

That's be great! GeocacheAlaska! needs "boots on the ground" all over Alaska. Neversummer just joined as a Sourdough Member, so there's the beginning of a core group of cachers in Homer.

Does this mean we don't have anyone running for the Secretary position? I just realized (thanks to a comment made elsewhere in elections followup) that I didn't answer this question on the forum thread - I emailed SSO JOAT directly. We (the elections committee) approached a relatively wide number of members about being nominated to board positions. In the end, no one we approached about the secretary slot was interested enough to be nominated for it. Having served there, I can tell you it's one of the CONSISTENTLY busiest spots on the board. Lack of interest in serving there may mean the position has too many responsibilities attached to it; an issue we'll take up following the election. In the meantime, the duties are covered through year-end which gives the board time to fill the position via the bylaws' directions.

Congratulations to the newly-elected 2013 GeocacheAlaska! Inc. Board of Directors:
President – Wes Skinner (NorthWes) Vice President – Mike Malvick (Ladybug Kids) Secretary – vacant Treasurer – Roberta Bromlow (polgera) Webmaster – Scott Aleckson (SSO JOAT) Member at Large – Randy Cler (cavyguy) Member at Large – Lisa Echard (FlightRiskAk) Member at Large – Tony Roof (firemanak) Member at Large – Scott Sagraves (fuzzybelly)
These results were announced at the Nov 15 2012 Eduvent. We thank all who were nominated and all who voted for your participation. Now it's time to roll up our sleeves and prepare for the 2013 year. First board meeting on Thursday January 17, 2013 will include some brief training for the entire new board on 'how we accomplish our work', and then we'll swing right into the action items facing us in the new year. There's plenty to do for all, regardless of whether you were elected or not. Each of GeocacheAlaska's standing committees needs help from all parts of our membership in carrying out committee tasks throughout this coming year.
