I've been away from caching for a bit and today when I was looking for a place to drop a geocoin I kept finding caches where the activity had dropped off due to lack of owner maintenance but the cache is still active (not archived) on geocaching.com.
Could we have a category on the boards for "Cache Adoptions" so owners who lose interest or no longer have time for the sport can put their cache(s) up for adoption and let someone who does have the time and interest maintain them.
I don't mind helping keep up a cache site or two around my neighborhood vs. letting them just go unmaintained.

I think this is a great idea and will be a very helpful thread!

Since my tour overseas has been extended (again) I find it impossible for me to properly maintain my two caches in Anchorage. Therefore, I'm putting the following Geocaching.com Premium Members type caches up for adoption. GCWNY3 "Regular, Standard, Not Complicated GOcache" GCWPZJ "Micro, Standard, Not Complicated GOcache" If you are interested in adopting both caches send email to newyorkercacher@gmail.com and I will then send an adoption request. Thanks, NY'er

Given that they are practically in my backyard and I have a half dozen or so other caches in the area, I could help.

LBK,
Go for the adoption they are a lot closer to you. the one I know I can find but the other I had a heck of a time finding the first time but suppose it would come back to me once in location. I think they are both pretty winter friendly too!

The provided coordinates appear to be in the Kanuti National Wildlife Refuge near the confluence of the Kanuti and Koyukuk Rivers. A cache cannot be published in a National Wildlife Refuge without express permission of the land manager.
However, a Google Search on the hint that refers to Mekiana Drive, places the cache in Anaktuvuk Pass at N68° 08'. Anaktuvuk Pass is off the road system and I am not aware of any cachers who live in the area or (in)frequently visit the area. Your best bet may be to try to engage someone from the guide service you most likely used who would be willing to take on care and feeding of the cache. However, someone reading this post might surprise us all and volunteer to take it on. Ilikebuttermilk visits a lot of the bush communities, but seems to frequent western coastal without forays into the Interior or North Slope. You might try dropping him a note to see if your cache location is on his itinerary.
I personally would love to visit Anaktuvuk Pass and use it as a jumping off point for Gates of the Arctic or an epic float trip, but that isn't in my future for several more years.

Adopting caches....
Maybe we should start thinking about having a list of caches that we would never want to go away. They could be and incredible multi or puzzle cache. It could be a cache that has an incredible view. Or ones that where a real blast for many to find.
Of course there would be many ideas, from different cachers. But I mean one that has meaning to almost all who visited. Favorites
Also I think this would be a good way for a beginner to see how cache ownership goes.
I'll try to remember mentioning that out on the trails when I meet new cachers.

I see. Thank you for the link.
Really I've only been caching seriously for just over a year, so I'm not sure what has been discussed in this area before. And I probably don't really know which caches would fall in this category.
Good to see this has been talked before.

One of the problems is the low readership of the forums. If we had more activity in here, such a list could be maintained in better fashion. It is, however, an interesting topic to consider for a website list under the Alaska cache info page. Would be a more central point of reference where I could list up the caches that have been "adopted" by the community. The hard part is just building the list to start with. Open for ideas...

Po Po, GC4521W, located in Palmer, is up for adoption. We will be relocating this fall and are phasing out any of our caches that we personally consider to be high maintenance, failing adoption we will be archiving it.
