Here's a working list of goals and tasks for 2011:- Goal - Double the membership base, with at least 40% of the increase originating from outside of the Anchorage area
(71 mbrs in 2010)
- Goal - Achieve >90% membership renewal from 2010
(currently at approx 35% renewal and growing)
- Goal - Actively recruit membership from all new cachers seen online as visiting/placing caches via email contact & invitation to events
- Goal - Achieve at least an Associate Membership enrollment for 100% of event attendees (to include acquisition of their geonickname & email address, at a minimum)
- Goal - Equip every board member and event host with the tools, training and attitude to invite all cachers they meet to join GeocacheAlaska! as a premium member
Tasking plan to achieve goals:
- Email all prior members by mid-February with renewal reminder. Status: completed Results: three renewals via Pay Pal within first 2 days following email blast; eight bad email addresses discovered for correction. Expecting ongoing receipt of mail-in renewals.
- Email all prior members who haven't renewed by mid-March with renewal reminder, specifically targeting unrenewed prior premium members with individually addressed message. Status: in development, with mid-March target
- Email all Associate Member listings with an invitation to "step-up" to Premium Membership status, with an inclusion of PM benefits. Status: Ongoing
- Provide webmaster with current membership list & new additions for website publication of member geonicknames - to 'brag-up' the premium & associate members. Status: complete to date/ongoing
- Equip event hosts with current membership list, to make possible relentless salesmanship of GeocacheAlaska to nonmember attendees. Equip event hosts with an event logsheet which requests membership status / email address to facilitate membership sales. Status: implemented & ongoing
- Develop and publish an inexpensive to reproduce 'Who We Are' single-sided handout with attached membership form for use at every event, and for use by all members, in approaching and enlisting cachers into GeocacheAlaska! membership and explaining to muggles and land managers 'Who We Are'. This is a tool for face to face contact or to leave with a cache logbook.
Status: in use, available for download from our website
- Develop and publish a 'GeocacheAlaska!' tri-fold double-sided flyer which explains geocaching and GeocacheAlaska! (and its purposes). This is a multi-color double-sided flyer designed to be a stand-alone sales tool for membership and land use advocacy (including a tear-off membership application panel), to be 'left behind' at supporting store counters (such as Accupoint and Sportsmans Warehouse), with photos and recruiting language meant to build interest in geocaching. This is a controlled distribution tool for store counters, for mailing to interested parties, and for use in introducing land managers to geocaching in Alaska (not for events or face to face recruiting, due to its relative expense).
Status: in development, target first draft review ready for March board meeting
- Develop & model a short-length GeocacheAlaska! member salesmanship video to post on website, showing how easy it is to ask a cacher to join GeocacheAlaska! Status: in development, target completion by mid-March Eduvent
- Work with the Education Subcommittee to develop a GeocacheAlaska! membership recruiting PowerPoint advertisement that will be shown at the beginning of every internet delivered educational event sponsored by GeocacheAlaska!
Status: in development, target completion by mid-March

Cool!
Plan the work and work the plan!
I think this could be a great working template for other committee work. Knowing what one wants to do early on is half the battle. Once the work is documented, it's easy to circle back and check on progress and plan the next steps.

I'm looking forward to doing the cross-referencing on event attendance logs to current membership lists. That will give immediate follow-up action lists to contact and "convince" of the joys of joining.
